Yasir Arafat , Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), addresses a UN General Assembly for the first time, giving his famous speech “Today I have come bearing an olive branch and a freedom-fighter's gun. Do not let the olive branch fall from my hand.” The Assembly voted on 14 October to invite the PLO to participate in its deliberations on the subject.
