The first meeting of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine is held; among the attendees are Dr. Victor Chi-Tsai Hoo of China (left), assistant secretary-general of the United Nations in charge of Trusteeship and Information from Non-Self-Governing Territories; and Dr. Jorge Garcia Granados, ambassador of Uruguay to the United States and the representative of his country on the Special Committee. Dr. Hoo will serve as representative of the Secretary-General on the 11-member Special Committee set-up in 1947 by the First Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly, instructed to investigate the Palestine situation and to report to the regular session of the assembly, which will convene next September.
