Declaration of Jordan’s National Assembly
On the Unity between the Eastern and Western Banks of Jordan
Amman, 24 April 1950
In affirmation of the confidence of the nation; in acknowledgement of the creditable struggle of His Majesty 'Abdullah bin al-Husayn, King of the Hashimite Kingdom of the Jordan, for the realization of national aspirations; in pursuance of the right of self-determination; and (in view of) the real facts (appertaining to) the eastern and western banks of the Jordan, their national, natural and geographic unity, as well as the necessities of their common interests and vital capacities;
Therefore, the Jordanian Parliament [National Assembly], representing both banks, does on this seventh day of Rajab, 1369 (A.H.), corresponding to April 24, 1950, resolve upon and declare the following:
First: The upholding of the complete unity of the eastern and western banks of the Jordan and their merging into one state the Hashimite Kingdom of the Jordan headed by His Hashimite Majesty the Exalted King 'Abdullah bin al-Husayn, (a state) based on a parliamentary, constitutional regime, and on equality of rights and duties among all citizens.
Second: The affirmation of (the determination) to preserve all the rights of the Arabs in Palestine, and the protection of these rights by all lawful means and with the full right (to do so), without prejudice to the final settlement of the just cause (of Palestine) and within the framework of national aspirations, Arab cooperation and international justice.
Third: The submission of this Resolution, adopted by both (Houses) of Parliament the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies representing both banks of the Jordan, to His Exalted Majesty, and its consideration as effective immediately upon receiving the high Royal assent.
Fourth: The proclamation and implementation of this Resolution, by the Government of the Hashimite Kingdom of the Jordan, immediately upon its receiving the high Royal assent, as well as the communication thereof to the sister Arab States and to friendly foreign States through the usual diplomatic channels.
